Richard Stickney of T and F Welding is a boat-builder with many years of experience, and has worked on things as diverse as giant spiders and metal corsets in the past, although this will be the first Cavorite sphere he has worked on! Richard will be working on creating the outer shell of the Cavorite sphere, and the Time Machine. Richard is based in Surrey.

Who will design & build it?

DESIGN:

Ben Henderson is a local Steampunk artist who happens to live in The Avenue -  a few doors down the road from where H. G. Wells lived when he wrote the Time Machine. Ben is in early discussions with local sculptor, boat builder and metal worker, Richard Stickney and an engineer at the moment. He is also collaborating with the sustainable living charity, Ecolocal regarding solar power and lighting  for the interior of the sculpture.

Ben is a known “Steampunk artist” within the movement: his sculpture work has been exhibited at The Greatest Steampunk Exhibition, (the longest running Steampunk exhibition in the world), hosted by Kew Bridge Steam Museum for three months, and he has also been active in the Lincoln “Asylum” event – the largest gathering of Steampunks in the world. Locally, his work has been exhibited at The Surrey Steampunk Convivial alongside eminent Steampunk artists Herr Doktor and Joe Slatter, and a book of his drawing and writing is in the process of being published.

Ben is responsible for the overall design of the statue, and is coordinating the build.

David Ingram
